چکیده

We study the performance of constant-power variable-rate M-QAM schemes over Nakagami fading channels. We obtain closed-form expressions for the outage probability, spectral eeciency and average bit-error-rate (BER) assuming perfect channel estimation and negligible time delay. For a target BER of 10 ?3 , the spectral eeciency of adaptive continuous rate M-QAM comes within 5 dB of the Shannon capacity limit, and adaptive discrete rate M-QAM comes within 6.2 dB of this limit. Nonadaptive BPSK suuers a large spectral eeciency penalty relative to these adaptive techniques. We also analyze the impact of time delay on the BER of adaptive M-QAM. Results show that systems with low BER requirements will be more sensitive to time delay, but will still operate satisfactorily if the delay is below a critical value.

Channel adaptive M-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (M-QAM) schemes have been developed to provide higher average link spectral efficiency by taking advantage of the timevarying nature of wireless fading channels. Much of the earlier work on such schemes uses the assu...

ALOUINI AND GOLDSMITH: ADAPTIVE MODULATION OVER NAKAGAMI FADING CHANNELS 0 Adaptive Modulation over Nakagami Fading Channels

We rst study the capacity of Nakagami multipath fading (NMF) channels with an average power constraint for three power and rate adaptation policies. We obtain closed-form solutions for NMF channel capacity for each power and rate adaptation strategy. Results show that rate adaptation is the key to increasing link spectral eeciency. We analyze therefore the performance of constant-power variable...

Performance Analysis of M-QAM Scheme Combined With Multiuser Diversity Over Nakagami- Fading Channels

In this letter, we consider an M-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (M-QAM) scheme combined with multiuser diversity over Nakagami-m fading channels. Assuming that delayed but error-free signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) feedback is available, we derive closed-form formulas for the average transmission rate and the average bit error rate which are also shown to be generalizations of many previous re...

Performance of Spatial Modulation in Correlated and Uncorrelated Nakagami Fading Channel

Abstracr Spatial Modulation (SM) has been proposed to avoid interchannel interference and the need of exact time synchronization amongst antennas of the Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) transmission system. In this paper, we study the performance of SM in a Nakagami fading environment. Exact integral expressions for calculating the symbol error rate of multilevel Quadrature Amplitude Modul...
